Magic of Monsoon

It is one of the world’s most celebrated Indian coffees, sourced from the lush coastal region of Malabar, Kerala. Its origins date back to the British Raj, when coffee beans were transported to Europe in the hulls of clipper ships over three-month journeys. During this time, the moist monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea naturally transformed the beans, imparting a unique flavor and pale golden color. With the advent of faster cargo ships, this natural process was lost. However, innovative coffee farmers in Malabar recreated these conditions by sun-drying green beans in open-air warehouses, exposing them to sea air and Monsoon winds. That is why this process is called Monsooned and because it is done in the Malabar coast, the coffee is named as ‘Monsooned Malabar’. This process is one of the unique processes found in the world. This careful process allows the beans to swell, fade in color, and develop a smooth, low-acidity flavor that captures the essence of India’s coffee heritage.
